22. The Seal of the Living God
SG

1. WHAT DOES GOD DO FOR HIS PEOPLE IN THE LAST DAYS?

1SG Rev. 7:1-3 In the last days God will send a special message to all the world that will place the seal of God on the foreheads of His servants.

  • This seal is more than just a mark that God’s people received in their foreheads. It denotes that God owns the person upon whom He has placed His seal.
  • 2 Cor 1:21, 22 (NIV) Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
  • The seal has been used back into history as long as time has left us a record. It was used as a way of "signing" a document so that the receiver would know that it was the "real thing" and not a counterfeit. It was used for good, and it was used for evil. Question #2 shows an illustration of how it was used in an evil way.

    2. WHAT WAS IT THAT MADE JEZEBEL'S ORDERS OFFICIAL?

2SG 1 Kings 21:8 Every nation has its seal, the sign of its authority. The President of the United States has a seal that appears on the podium every time he speaks. It also can be found on many of the articles with which he deals. This is the sign of his authority as President. The seal of God is also a sign of His authority as the only true God and supreme ruler of the universe..

    3. WHAT IS IT THAT GIVES GOD THE AUTHORITY BEHIND THE THINGS HE ASKS US TO DO?

3SG Jer. 10:10-12 God's power and authority comes from the fact that He created the heavens and the earth.

  • Ps. 121:2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
  • Psa 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
  • The fact that He is the Creator sets God apart from all the false gods and idols. His seal, then, will show the sign of His authority as the Creator.

    4. WHAT SIGN DOES GOD USE TO DENOTE HIS CREATIVE POWER?

4SG Ex. 31:16, 17 God has appointed the seventh-day Sabbath to stand as the sign of His creative power in making the world in 6 ordinary 24-hour days.

  • (Gen 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.)
  • Therefore the Sabbath is the sign of God as the Creator.

    5. WHAT MAKES THE SEVENTH-DAY SABBATH SO IMPORTANT TO US?

5SG Ex. 31:13 It takes the same divine power to save man from sin as it did to create him. The seventh-day Sabbath, the sign of God's power to Create is also the sign of His power to redeem us from sin and to sanctify us unto Himself. Thus the seventh-day Sabbath would be the seal of the living God.

    6. WHAT THREE THINGS ABOUT GOD APPEAR IN ONLY THE FOURTH  OF THE 10 COMMAND-MENTS?

6SG Ex. 20:11 A seal contains three items of information: 1. The name of the one in authority; 2. The title of the one who has the authority; and 3. The territory over which he serves. The fourth commandment is the only one that has all three items in reference to God. In the Sabbath commandment we find: 1. God's name--"LORD" (Heb. Yahweh, KJV's Jehovah); 2. His title as the only true God--"the LORD made"–is the Creator; and 3. the territory over which He governs--"heaven and earth".

    7. HOW CAN WE SHOW IN OUR ACTIONS THAT WE ACCEPT THE GRACE AND SANCTIFYING POWER OF GOD?

7SG Eze. 20:12 By keeping the Sabbath, we accept for our-selves the sign of God's saving grace and sanctifying power.

  • "The Sabbath reaffirms that the Lord of the Sabbath becomes our redemption and sanctification [set apart; make holy]. It brings assurance of deliverance from the bondage of sin: 'Sabbath' (rest) to our soul. Just as the Sabbath is set apart for holy use, so are we set apart for God. Such redemption and sanctification in Christ is the bliss that we experience walking with Him here, awaiting our walk with Him in heaven." SSLQ April 17, 2000
  • 8. WHAT ELSE DOES OUR SABBATH-KEEPING SHOW?

8SG Eze. 20:20 Keeping the Sabbath is a sign that we know God, that our minds have acknowledged Him as supreme in our lives. Rev. 7:1-3 showed us that the seal of God is placed upon the forehead, the part of the face directly in front of the mind. The seal of God is the Sabbath, in the keeping of which we show that we accept God as our Creator and redeemer. Thus by keeping the seventh-day Sabbath for these two important reasons, we actually receive the seal of the living God on our foreheads.

    9. WHAT DOES GOD PLACE IN THE FOREHEAD OF HIS SPECIAL PEOPLE?

9SG Rev. 14:1 The Father's name is His character.

  • Ex. 34:5-7. Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."
  • The people who receive the seal of God on their foreheads will be those who surrender all their being to do God's will, so that the heart and mind will be brought into conformity to the character of God.

    10. WHAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL SAVE US FROM THE DESTROYING POWER OF GOD?

10SG Eze. 9:1-6 When the last plague came on Egypt—the death of the first-born—the only people who were saved from that plague were those who had the mark of blood on the doorposts of their houses. Just so, the only ones who will be protected from the seven last plagues, and saved in God's heavenly kingdom, will be those who have the seal of God on their foreheads.
