A3. Heaven
H

1. WHERE DOES GOD LIVE?

1H 2 Cor. 12:2-4 Paradise is the place where God lives. In this text, Paul tells us that he went to paradise, although he wasn't sure whether his trip was virtual or literal. But he explains that paradise is in the 3rd heaven.

2. WHAT IS THE FIRST HEAVEN?

2H Rev. 19:17 The expanse that we call the sky was called "heaven" in Bible times. John uses that term here to tell us where the birds of prey will be flying right after Jesus comes.

3. WHAT IS THE SECOND HEAVEN?

3H Isa. 13.10 The second heaven, the vast expanse that contains the stars and the planets, is what we call outer space.

4. WHAT PROMISE DID JESUS MAKE TO HIS DISCIPLES BEFORE HE DIED?

4H John 14:1-3 Jesus promised that He would make dwelling places in heaven for His followers. After Jesus died and was buried, He rose again. He ascended to heaven for the purpose of preparing us a place for us in His Father's House.

5. WHAT IS THE FATHER'S HOUSE?

5H Heb. 11:8-10, 16 "My Father's house," which Jesus described, is a city. Abraham went, at God's call, looking for this city, "whose ruler and maker is God." John calls this city the "New Jerusalem."

6. WHAT IS THE NEW JERUSALEM LIKE?

6H Rev. 21:10-27 The description of the New Jerusalem here is symbolic just as is much of the rest of Revelation. But this picture of paradise helps us to realize the beauty that we shall behold in that great metropolis.

7. WHAT ARE SOME OTHER INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT THE NEW JERUSALEM?

7H Rev. 21:1-4 The New Jerusalem will be the capital of the New Earth–and of the entire universe. God will live there with His people. All of the effects of sin will be no more.

  • ". . . The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him." Rev 22.3
  • Since Heaven is the place where God lives, then the earth will become heaven.

    8. WHAT IS A COMMON QUALIFICATION FOR BECOMING A CITIZEN OF THE NEW JERUSALEM?

8H Rev. 22:14 [KJV- "Blessed are they that do his commandments, . . ."] Citizens of the city will be those who have kept God's commandments–through the grace of Christ.

    9. WHERE WILL HEAVEN BE AFTER GOD MAKES ALL THINGS NEW?

9H 2 Pet. 3:10-13 After its destruction, Earth will be recreated into heaven.

    10. WHO DID JESUS SAY WOULD LIVE THERE?

10H Ps. 37:10, 11 Only the meek will live in the new Earth. Compare Matt. 5:5

###11. WHAT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES WILL PEOPLE DO IN THE NEW EARTH? WHAT DANGERS WILL THEY FACE.

11H Isa. 65:17-25 People will be active and will do useful things they enjoy. Nothing in God's city will be harmful. (In verse 20, Isaiah sought to describe eternity in a way his readers would understand. John, in the Revelation, explained that God's people would actually live forever.)

    12. HOW OFTEN WILL THE SAINTS WORSHIP GOD?

12H Isa. 66:22, 23 All the saved will worship God every Sabbath, and on other special occasions.

    13. WILL PEOPLE BE REAL IN HEAVEN?

13H Phil. 3:20, 21 People will have real, flesh and bone bodies--just as Jesus was a real flesh and bone person after His resurection (cf. Luke 24:36-43)
