14. Sharing Teaches Us to Be Unselfish

"Mine!" shouted little Jimmy as he grabbed the toy truck from his sister's hands. "Don't touch my toys!"

"Mommy!" cried Sue as she melted into tears. "Jimmy won't let me play with any of his toys!"

"Children," Mother knelt by her tots. "Remember what the Sabbath School teacher said last week?"

"She said," replied Jimmy "'When we share, we act like Jesus.'"

"That's right." Mommy wiped the tears off Sue's cheeks. "We all want to keep things for ourselves. But remember, Jesus gave up everything so He could share it with us. When we share our things with others, we're doing what Jesus did."

"Here, Sue." Jimmy gave his sister the toy. "I want to be like Jesus. You can play with my truck anytime."

Ps. 8:2: "From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise. . . ." (NIV)

Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 3, p. 393. "The plan of system in benevolence God designed for the good of [the human race], who [are] inclined to be selfish and to close [their] hearts to generous deeds."

And so we learn the stewardship of unselfishness that leads us to share with others.
