43. ". . . and You're Feeding

That to Me!"

Edith Clogsmore hummed as she fixed her husband's favorite dishcandied sweet potatoes and ham. Ichabod sniffed the aroma and smiled as he turned to the sports page of the evening paper. "I'm surely a lucky man," he mumbled. "I've got the best wife in the world."

One day Edith attended meetings down at the Adventist church. She learned to know Jesus better than ever before. But one thing troubled her. She saw that the Bible forbad eating unclean meatincluding pork. And it said that she shouldn't even touch unclean meat. "What will I do?" she agonized. "Ichabod will kill me if I refuse to cook his candied sweet potatoes and ham."

Then she found a way to show her husband that she loved him and yet still not contaminate herself. She wore rubber gloves.

She became an even better wife after she was baptized, and Ichabod noticed the difference. She even became a better cook. But one day Ichabod finished his sports page early and stepped into the kitchen. "What's with the rubber gloves?" he asked. Edith froze, but then she decided to tell him what she'd learned. "The Bible says we shouldn't eat pork, and that we shouldn't even touch it." Ichabod's mouth dropped open. "You can't touch it?" he stammered. "And you're feeding it to me?"

Not long afterward Ichabod joined her in the joy of a new-found relationship with Jesus.

And so we learn a little more about the stewardship of faithfulness in our diet.
