Make Thee and Ark

     by Thurman C. Petty, Jr.

Make thee an Ark, is the Master’s command,
          For the saving of earth today;
     It may not be built of gopher wood,
          Nor its seams be calked with clay;

And no girders will rise on the side of a hill
          To prove we believe what we say;
     And we may not preach to the monstrous crowds
          Who come to observe and to play.

     But our Ark will be just as certain and strong
          As the ship that Noah made;
     For its timbers rise in our hearts and minds
          Through the strength of the Master’s aid.

And the tide of sin in our world today
          Can never o’erwhelm with its flood,
     For our Christ-like lives will ascend in the clouds,
          Redeemed by the Savior’s blood.
